Farallon Recorder Quartet presents a program of “Songs and Consorts from the Courts of Europe,” in which they will be joined for the first time by soprano Jennifer Paulino and lutenist John Lenti.

At the heart of the program will be English Renaissance music drawn from their recent CD, From Albion’s Shores, which includes music by the great 16th Century lutenist, John Dowland, and his famous contemporary, William Byrd. Spanish music by Diego Ortiz and Antonio Cabezon, German music by Ludwig Senfl and Heinrich Finck, French chansons by Josquin des Prez, and Italian songs by Bartolomeo Tromboncino and Jacob Obrecht complete this whirlwind musical tour.

Soprano Jennifer Paulino has been praised for her “warm”, “vibrant”, “glowing” voice (San Francisco Classical Voice). The playing of Seattle-based lutenist John Lenti has been lauded for its “nuanced beauty and character” (Gramophone).

Farallon Recorder Quartet (Annette Bauer, Letitia Berlin, Frances Blaker, and Louise Carslake) is a Bay Area-based Early Music group that brings the music of the Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, and Modern Eras to today’s audiences with professional polish, verve, and precision. They employ a fascinating range of recorder sizes and period styles, ranging from six inches to six feet tall. Their most recent CD recording, From Albion’s Shores, has been described by Early Music America as “the sound one would get if one could turn honey into wood or stand underneath a caramel fountain.” The ensemble was awarded a professional development grant by the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music, specifically to develop and present this program.
